Dehradun: Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami laid the foundation for 34 infrastructure projects worth ₹234.55 crore to prepare Haridwar for Kumbh Mela 2027. The initiative aims to ensure a safe, well-organized event while boosting the city’s long-term urban development.

Strengthening Infrastructure for a Global Religious Event

Highlighting the significance of the projects, CM Dhami stated that the planned infrastructure works will significantly enhance the city’s preparedness to host millions of pilgrims and tourists expected during Kumbh Mela 2027. The projects focus on improving essential civic amenities, public safety systems, transportation networks, and overall urban management.

Key areas of development include:

Upgradation of roads and connectivity routes

Improvement of traffic management systems

Strengthening sanitation and waste management infrastructure

Development of public facilities for pilgrims and tourists

Enhanced safety, surveillance, and disaster management arrangements

Modernization of administrative and control infrastructure

These initiatives are designed not only to support the smooth conduct of the Kumbh Mela but also to leave behind a sustainable infrastructure legacy for Haridwar.

Focus on Safety, Organization, and Pilgrim Experience

The Chief Minister stressed that ensuring safety, convenience, and efficient crowd management will remain the government’s top priority. Advanced planning and modern infrastructure will help authorities manage large-scale pilgrim movement while maintaining cleanliness, security, and accessibility throughout the event.

He further noted that technology-driven monitoring systems and improved coordination among departments will contribute to a seamless and well-regulated pilgrimage experience.

Long-Term Development Vision for Haridwar

Beyond the religious event, the infrastructure projects are expected to play a transformative role in Haridwar’s long-term growth. Improved urban facilities and connectivity will benefit residents, local businesses, and tourism stakeholders even after the conclusion of Kumbh Mela 2027.

The initiative aligns with the Uttarakhand government’s broader vision of promoting religious tourism, sustainable urban development, and economic growth across the state.

Boost to Tourism and Local Economy

Kumbh Mela attracts millions of devotees, spiritual seekers, and international visitors, making it a significant driver of economic activity. The upcoming infrastructure upgrades are anticipated to:

Increase tourism potential

Generate employment opportunities

Strengthen local businesses and hospitality sectors

Enhance Haridwar’s global recognition as a spiritual destination

With these developments underway, Uttarakhand is preparing to host Kumbh Mela 2027 as a world-class spiritual gathering that blends tradition with modern infrastructure and efficient governance.
